Wisconsin Dairy Farm Tours
For those of you who have always wanted to do a farm tour but just never had time to develop a tour plan, you're in luck! The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board developed the Wisconsin Dairy Farm Tour Booklet to be a quick reference for helping you give a successful farm tour.
The booklet was originally developed with school groups in mind, but the information it offers can be easily adapted to fit any touring audience. We hope you find the information and ideas, as well as the other resources we've listed below, helpful in making your tour a positive experience for everyone involved.
The booklet is divided into six sections:
- Why give a farm tour
- Preparing for your farm tour
- Talking points
- Tricky questions and sticky situations
- Neat ideas
- Audiences
Visit
Dairy Statistics (Wisconsin and U.S.) for additional information that you could share with your tour group or download
activity and color pages for kids. Tour groups should also review safety measures outlined in the
Dairy Farm Tour Booklet and the
Farm Tour Safety page.
You may also want to consider showing the 10-minute
Dairy Farming in Wisconsin--It's About the Cows video.
